  • Shabbat Shalom

So I attended Shabbat service at the church I've been going to their Shoresh Bible Study and INtro to Jewish Roots classes on sundays.

It was fun...the dancing and a guy was their who just got back from a missions trip in Ireland.

He said kids over there are basically abandoned by their parents...lots of kids are sent to "Drop-in" centers to watch them while their parents either work or just don't want to and/or have time to "parent".

Also he said that in jr high they have to take a test that determines what their job will be when they are adults...talk about the prussian school model.

today is 07/21/2007 --- forgot to add this last night--

then on the way home the talk radio's local news clip at the top of every hour, said a school district close by is deciding to supply every student with a laptop in hopes that it will motivate them to do their school work and motivate them to use the internet for research (are they also supplying every house in the district with internet access for this?)....yeah we don't have fine arts and most sports programs fees come out of the parents pockets and supposedly teachers don't make very much money, but let's take our school budget (aka property tax dollars) and spend it on kids getting laptops - nevermind that they are wanting to do this for mostly high schoolers who will most likely only use it for games, chat rooms, myspace, and instant messaging.....Does anyone else find this absurd?

speaking of property tax....now every year we have to pay a pet license (aka another tax), even for animals that are inside and prove every year that we vaccinate our animals...again even for inside pets....

I want to move to the country really, really badly...but alas DH is a city dweller and is afraid he would be bored in the country...I know just get him out to a farm somewhere where there is target practice and fishing and anything else a typical country life can offer and maybe he'll change his mind...but DH is on the extra board....he went to work at 3pm on thursday was home by midnight...and went to work last night at 11pm....still waiting on him to get home....and who knows when he'll be called in to work again...he is not allowed to have a life, he can only sit and wait for the phone to ring telling him he needs to get to work within the hour.

well, 07/18 was my dad's 62nd b-day....he wants to go 90 minutes away to where his mom & brother & grandparents are buried to check on the graves and to see the sites in a town he spent many years of his life in and we'll treat him out to eat.   I better go get ready, my sister will be here to pick me up in 1.5 hours.   I hear a vehicle, may be DH now.

  • Ah, I think I agree with you regarding the laptops. What I am finding sad is that kids now do not know how to do research in a library.

  • O.K. hahaha... I got all confused with your comment over at my other site... I know who you are now... your a fellow xangan also! I was thinking... I know I have seen that profile pic somewhere! lol Well, I just left a "introduce myself" comment on your blogspot... you can ignore it. Bee

  • I'm so antique, I miss the old card catalogs (and get REALLY irate when the 'system goes down' at the library).  Ah, the good ol' days...!!

It sounds to me like your husband needs something strong to happen to change his priorities.  I don't know why, but I feel as though I need to pray for that thing to happen, but I'd hate to, and have it be sickness or the death of someone close or job loss or something.  Still... my Brian needs wake-up calls, too, and because I'm tough-as-nails, I dial 'em in, myself.

  • How is it going ... I want to here an undate on this Jewish root thing??

    Love you Sherry
