II Samuel
DS got his hair cut off due to bribery ($100) and family pressure...oh and here's II Samuel
07/03/2007 Chapters 1-31:26 - I am distressed for thee, my brother Jonathan: very pleasant hast thou been unto me: thy love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women.
{May I be the human who my DH says loves him more than any other}3:36 - And all the people took notice of it, and it pleased them: as whatsoever the king did pleased all the people.
{oh to have a leader that does right}07/04/2007 Chapters 4-6
6:11 - And the ark of the LORD continued in the house of Obededom the Gittite three months: and the LORD blessed Obededom, and all his household.
07/05/2007 Chapters 7-9
7:10 - Moreover I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as beforetime,
7:29 - Therefore now let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue for ever before thee: for thou, O Lord GOD, hast spoken it: and with thy blessing let the house of thy servant be blessed for ever.
07/06/2007 Chapters 10-12
11:2-4 - And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon. And David sent and enquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned unto her house.
{Jon Bevere would remind us of James 1:14 - But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed}11:8 - And David said to Uriah, Go down to thy house, and wash thy feet. And Uriah departed out of the king's house, and there followed him a mess of meat from the king.
{King David was hoping Uriah would have relations with his wife and maybe it would seem to Uriah the baby was his, King David had not repented yet and was trying to cover his hiney}11:13 - And when David had called him, he did eat and drink before him; and he made him drunk: and at even he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but went not down to his house.
{again King David was hoping that while Uriah was drunk he would automatically go home and sleep with his wife}11:15 - And he wrote in the letter, saying, Set ye Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that he may be smitten, and die.
{So it boiled down to killing the guy, so Bathsheba would be free to become his wife and maybe no one would calculate back from when the baby was born to find out it wasn't Uriah's baby...but alas the child will die anyway}11:27 - And when the mourning was past, David sent and fetched her to his house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.
12:14 - Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die.
{the thing he tried so hard to either make appear right and/or cover up, but I notice that King David is being chastened in this chapter, but his life spared because his sin has been put away because he confessed/acknowledged that he had sinned, but the chastisement stood}{also he fasted and wept because hey the LORD could be gracious...but once it was certain the child had died, David goes and worships at the house of the LORD, that takes true Grace to not
get angry with YHWH...after all he was already told what the outcome would be}12:24-25 - And David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in unto her, and lay with her: and she bare a son, and he called his name Solomon: and the LORD loved him. And he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet; and he called his name Jedidiah, because of the LORD.
{so Solomon and Jedidiah are one in the same...also a blessing after repenting and not getting angry at the LORD for HIS just chastising}07/07/2007 Chapters 13-15
13:5 - And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and make thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand.
13:32 - And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother, answered and said, Let not my lord suppose that they have slain all the young men the king's sons; for Amnon only is dead: for by the appointment of Absalom this hath been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar.
13:39 - And the soul of king David longed to go forth unto Absalom: for he was comforted concerning Amnon, seeing he was dead.
{so was jonadab conspiring to kill amnon from the beginning? seems that way to me...either that or he is just one of those types who plays both sides...ya know}MH's comments on 14:25-27 - Nothing is said of Absalom's wisdom and piety. All here said of him is, that he was very handsome. A poor commendation for a man that had nothing else in him valuable. Many a polluted, deformed soul dwells in a fair and comely body. And we read that he had a very fine head of hair. It was a burden to him, but he would not cut it as long as he could bear the weight. That which feeds and gratifies pride, is not complained of, though uneasy. May the Lord grant us the beauty of holiness, and the adorning of a meek and quiet spirit! Only those who fear God are truly happy.
15:16 - And the king went forth, and all his household after him. And the king left ten women, which were concubines, to keep the house.
{from A Heart Ablaze part 7 -The Creator of all the universe is most beautiful.
Everyone in heaven wants to be in HIS throne room and do not want to be anywhere else.
Do you want to follow The LAMB wherever HE goes or take care of the house? just food for thought}
15:26 - But if he thus say, I have no delight in thee; behold, here am I, let him do to me as seemeth good unto him.
{that we would all be so willing to place our life in HIS hands this way}07/08/2007 Chapters 16-18
17:23 - And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his ass, and arose, and gat him home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order, and hanged himself, and died, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father.
{put his household in order - like our wills maybe?}18:9 - And Absalom met the servants of David. And Absalom rode upon a mule, and the mule went under the thick boughs of a great oak, and his head caught hold of the oak, and he was taken up between the heaven and the earth; and the mule that was under him went away.
{remember he was so vain about his hair...look what it got him...reminds me of something that happened to my cousins, they were riding in a canoe and one of the gals got her hair caught on some branches}07/09/2007 Chapters 19-21
19:28 - For all of my father's house were but dead men before my lord the king: yet didst thou set thy servant among them that did eat at thine own table. What right therefore have I yet to cry any more unto the king?
{I say this very thing to Yeshua concerning a matter that is weighty...HE has given me salvation what more can I ask?}21:22 - These four were born to the giant in Gath, and fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
{five smooth stones}07/10/2007 Chapters 22-24
22:28 - And the afflicted people thou wilt save: but thine eyes are upon the haughty, that thou mayest bring them down.
23:3 - The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.
{that all in position of leadership would head this}
