  • I Kings in 2007

    07/11/2007 I Kings

    Chapter 1 - in the last book Absalom sought to be king, now we see Adonijah, his brother, seeking to be king...man talk about impatient children, can't wait for their dad to say who will reign in his place...sure he told Bathsheba but apparently not anyone else, most likely to spare Solomon's life, if people knew he would be the next king, they would probably try to kill him before he could take the throne.

    verses 20-21: And thou, my lord, O king, the eyes of all Israel are upon thee, that thou shouldest tell them who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.   Otherwise it shall come to pass, when my lord the king shall sleep with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon shall be counted offenders.

    verse 33:  The king also said unto them, Take with you the servants of your lord, and cause Solomon my son to ride upon mine own mule, and bring him down to Gihon:
    {sign of the new king given by king David...hmmm others thinking what I am thinking?}

    Chapter 2 - like how Solomon puts an end to those who weren't truly obedient to his dad.

    3:14 - And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days.

    4:20 - Judah and Israel were many, as the sand which is by the sea in multitude, eating and drinking, and making merry.

    4:25 - And Judah and Israel dwelt safely, every man under his vine and under his fig tree, from Dan even to Beersheba, all the days of Solomon.
    {good times while Solomon reigned, hold your hats, bad times are coming....when they say peace...1 Thessalonians 5:2-4}

    07/12/2007 Chapters 5-7

    5:3 - Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the LORD his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the LORD put them under the soles of his feet.
    {reminds me of Romans 16:20 - And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.}

    5:11 - And Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and carpenters, and masons: and they built David an house.
    {who the free masons claim as their founder/inspiration}

    6:12-13 - Concerning this house which thou art in building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father:  And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel.

    7:15-16 - For he cast two pillars of brass, of eighteen cubits high apiece: and a line of twelve cubits did compass either of them about.  And he made two chapiters of molten brass, to set upon the tops of the pillars: the height of the one chapiter was five cubits, and the height of the other chapiter was five cubits:
    {for the temple and important to remember  oh and see THIS for a fascinating video that talks about these pillars }

    7:21 - And he set up the pillars in the porch of the temple: and he set up the right pillar, and called the name thereof Jachin: and he set up the left pillar, and called the name thereof Boaz.

    7:32-33 - And under the borders were four wheels; and the axletrees of the wheels were joined to the base: and the height of a wheel was a cubit and half a cubit.  And the work of the wheels was like the work of a chariot wheel: their axletrees, and their naves, and their felloes, and their spokes, were all molten.
    {wheel in the middle of a wheel ?}

    {Why is he remaking all the things they made out of gold and such in the desert?}

    07/13/2007 Chapters 8-10
    8:22 - And Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven:
    {I've attended assemlies, nazarene, methodist, and now a baptist church on sundays and a Home Church on thursdays and before the only congregation I saw lifting their hands was the Assemblies, in fact the other pastors had told us we could be walked out the door for lifting hands in their services.
    The last time I attended a local nazarene church I can't recall if during songs or even the preaching if anyone had uplifted hands, but at my cousins methodist church in Iowa over the past few years they've had rotating pastors who have a little background in the pentecostal movement....and they have "breathed" new life into the sometimes stuffy services and people were closing their eyes and lifting their hands.  And even at this baptist church.  Now I am not saying you have to lift your hands and close your eyes when singing to YHWH, but when the Spirit moves you to do so- by all means we should be allowed to and not have a pastor say , "that's what the pentecostals do and we won't have that here."}

    8:43 - Hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for: that all people of the earth may know thy name, to fear thee, as do thy people Israel; and that they may know that this house, which I have builded, is called by thy name.

    8:54 - And it was so, that when Solomon had made an end of praying all this prayer and supplication unto the LORD, he arose from before the altar of the LORD, from kneeling on his knees with his hands spread up to heaven.

    9:7 - Then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all people:
    {can't remember the century but there was the time the church wanted to seperate itself from anything Israelish is nature (true day of the Sabbath and traded Passover for ishtar, etc....and during WWII when the Jews (and yes other social groups) were in danger of being completely irradicated, I think those would fit this their name being a byword description}

    9:28 - And they came to Ophir, and fetched from thence gold, four hundred and twenty talents, and brought it to king Solomon.
    {I like that Digging for Truth show, he tried to locate Solomon's Mines in one episode}

    10:12 - And the king made of the almug trees pillars for the house of the LORD, and for the king's house, harps also and psalteries for singers: there came no such almug trees, nor were seen unto this day.
    {red sandalwood}

    10:14 - Now the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year was six hundred threescore and six talents of gold,
    {the reference of Solomon and the weight of gold six hundred and sixty-six}

    10:21 - And all king Solomon's drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon were of pure gold; none were of silver: it was nothing accounted of in the days of Solomon.
    {I prefer either white gold or silver in jewelry}

    07/14/2007 Chapters 11-13
    11:39 - And I will for this afflict the seed of David, but not for ever.
    {!!!}

    12:8 - But he(Rehoboam) forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and consulted with the young men that were grown up with him, and which stood before him:

    12:19 - So Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.
    {so when they say "unto this day" does that mean even today or until the day this record was written down to always be remembered?  oh and there is that # again 1219...my b-day is 12/19 and my initials are the 19th and 12th letters of the alphabet - and yes even my maiden name initials were the same}

    12:28 - Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold, and said unto them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
    {anyone else having Aaron and the Israelites in the desert flashbacks?  for more read the Heart Ablaze series in the left hand column}
    {oh and 1228 was a house number I spent ages 7.5-14.25 in}

    12:31 - And he made an house of high places, and made priests of the lowest of the people, which were not of the sons of Levi.
    {found this interesting to be pointed out but what about that guy before who set up his own priest in his house...was that "priest" a levite and they were worshipping idols then too}
    {Judges 17:13 said the priest he had was a Levite but it was still a graven image...ugh.}

    12:33 - So he offered upon the altar which he had made in Bethel the fifteenth day of the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart; and ordained a feast unto the children of Israel: and he offered upon the altar, and burnt incense.
    {beginning of man's tradition?  here is a feast he ordained, not ordained by YHWH}

    13:2 - And he cried against the altar in the word of the LORD, and said, O altar, altar, thus saith the LORD; Behold, a child shall be born unto the house of David, Josiah by name; and upon thee shall he offer the priests of the high places that burn incense upon thee, and men's bones shall be burnt upon thee.  {this comes true, I read about it today in the last 3 chapters of II Kings...but you'll have to wait until I post it either tomorrow or 7/27} oh and Josiah means  the Lord burns; the fire of the Lord

    13:26 - And when the prophet that brought him back from the way heard thereof, he said, It is the man of God, who was disobedient unto the word of the LORD: therefore the LORD hath delivered him unto the lion, which hath torn him, and slain him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake unto him.
    {oh this boils my blood...this prophet lied and told the man of God that an angel told him it was ok to go eat/drink with him...even though the man of God was told not to before he came to Bethel.  So now this smug old prophet is all like oh well the man of God disobeyed...makes it look like maybe what he told Jeroboam could be incorrect cuz here we have a man of God disobeying...again this boils my blood, hope the prophet gets his "just" desserts.}

    07/15/2007 Chapters 14-16

    14:4a - And Jeroboam's wife did so,{did what her husband told her to do even though it involved trying to trick a man of God}

    14:23 - For they also built them high places, and images, and groves, on every high hill, and under every green tree.

    15:5 - Because David did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, and turned not aside from any thing that he commanded him all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.

    15:14 - But the high places were not removed: nevertheless Asa's heart was perfect with the LORD all his days.

    16:34  - In his(Ahab) days did Hiel the Bethelite build Jericho: he laid the foundation thereof in Abiram his firstborn, and set up the gates thereof in his youngest son Segub, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Joshua the son of Nun.
    {where was this in Joshua...find  here it is}

    07/16/2007 Chapters 17-19

    17:24 - And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in thy mouth is truth.
    {as a mom I can see how bringing her son back to life would seem more of a miracle but the never ending barrel of meal and oil is also a big deal}

    18:21-39
    {my MIL thinks they should have a standoff like this over there....call all the false gods followers together with the true and have it proven once and for all who is God!}
    {I also like it when Elijah taunts them - maybe your god is on vacation...LOL}

    19:20 - And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again: for what have I done to thee?
    {it was ok for him to go say goodbye to his family before following Elijah...}

    07/17/2007 Chapters 20-22

    20:34 & 42  {yeah, you thinking what I am thinking?}

    21:29 - Seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days: but in his son's days will I bring the evil upon his house.
    {scary!}

    22:19 - And he(king of Israel) said, Hear thou therefore the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left.
    {Isaiah saw the same thing...too cool!}
