Ponderings:
When pilate washed his hands was he saying I'm not responsible or was he insulting the Hebrews by using their hand washing custom?

I have those movies in my Blockbuster queue, so hopefully soon we'll be watching them, too!
I always saw it as him washing his hands of the situation. Back then having gestures to signifiy a person's thoughts and convictions was important. That's why Yeshua washed feet, why baptism was important... and I don't see Pilate as vindictive. He said he found Christ to be innocent. He wouldn't turn around and abuse what Christ Himself (as a Jew) would hold as important and holy.
I would ditto Anna's thoughts on Pilate.
