  • OK what do you think?

My DH is actually reading the Bible ... all beit it's NIV but still he's reading it.

Although I think he's doing it to try and argue with me.

He's mad that I won't eat pig or shellfish anymore.  And he knows Genesis is my fave book in the Bible so he's reading it and yesterday says to me,

"ok so if you can't eat pork, why did God tell Noah in chapter 9 that every moving thing that liveth is meat ((see verses 3-4 of chapter 9)) and if there were animals we were not meant to eat, wouldn't God have let them all drown?"

I told him that the animals didn't just come 2 by 2 as in all the cutesy stories, there was a distinction already between clean and unclean animals and it was never a question on Noah's part that when God said good news now you can eat not only produce as before but also meat ...Noah knew God was talking of the clean animals, why would anyone want to eat an unclean animal...you know the phrase 'you are what you eat' ...."

Genesis 7:2 Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female.

So you see, he's trying to read scripture just to find a verse or two to argue his point .... and now we see why there are so many different  "statements of faith"   anyone can take a verse to prove their point ...and it's even easier with all those translations out there to find one that says what you believe ... well it matters not what we believe, we have no right to re-arrange HIS commands to suit our perceived notions of what is right and wrong.

Also anyone hear about this belief in Yeshua is against the Noachide laws?  I'm going to ask my Intro to Jewish Roots instructor about that one also.  The guy who leads our HavDalah get togethers doesn't acknowledge the Noachide laws or else I'd ask his take on it as well.  So share your thoughts please and I'll share what I find out when I do as well.

oh and I'm still sad and very thankful that Anna is praying for me.  Thanks Anna.

ok so I am very glad he's reading the Bible, that was not the issue ... my point is what say you regarding the eating of pork and shellfish?  Do you think that Noah ate such disgusting things?  and regarding Yeshua being  an "idol" according to the Noachide laws?  that is all, thanks

  • I think its good even though he intends to use it for bad.
There is a verse that says (His) word shall not return void, (think its in Isa 55) so even though he's trying to use it for wrong, he's still opening himself up to it.

The way I see it, its always better to get it from the source than some preacher who throws in their own perspective of what it should be.

My Mom has the same problem with my Dad :( Except he's smart enough to not try and start an argument with her, as her temperament is more like Anna's..

e-props for trying to get through to him, besides some guys love a good argument, might be just the thing to help motivate his interest in God's word. After awhile you could introduce him to a NKJ and then a bit later, the real thing.

  • God's word doesn't return void.  even if he's just reading it to find points of arguement he's still reading it.

  • Stoebel did a lot of studies to disprove God, so I am glad he is reading the Bible.  Don't forget the verse that all things are permissable, but not all things are beneficial.  Let him look at the history of the plague and find out that the Israelites did not die as much as the other townspeople, and finally one brilliant person suggested doing the various things the Jews did for sanitation - like burying waste, washing hands, etc.  Perhaps there is a reason why bottom feeders and swine who eat anything without discrimination are forbidden.  Many of the things God forbade we later discovered had good reasons for it.
